Handling

Dog handling is the art to succeed with making people think that everything that you do looks beautiful. Dog handling simple is handling the dog in the ring but actually it’s much more. The purpose of the handler is not simple, because he has to present the dog he is handling in its best light. We all know that the perfect dog does not exist – there is always something that you want to be different. The handler should be calm in the ring and to look that he is doing that very easy.

Svetla Velichkova - best baby on the Euro dog showI am handling dogs since I was 12 and during all there years as handler in Bulgaria and foreign countries I have handled a lot of different breeds, from a lot of countries and I have had big successes with them. Unfortunately it is impossible to learn everything for Dog handling but I have learned from very good handlers and I can tell that this is one of the most pleasant activities in my life. With all this the success is never late.

In competitions for Junior Handling I have over 30 first places and for Senior Handling about 5-6 times.
I have handled dogs from breeds like Siberian husky, Irish Wolfhound, French Bulldog, American Akita, Samoyed, Alaskan Malamute, Borsoi, Pug, Cane Corso, American Staffordshire Terrier, Chinese naked dog, Dalmatin, Newfoundland, Shiba Inu and others.

For me the success in handling is strongly connected with the realationship between the handler and the dog. Five years ago I started to be more interested in educating dogs, which helps with my success in handling.

Going with the dog on a show does not mean only handling it. There are many details that the judge is giving attention to, and have influence on his judgment. The grooming of the dog, the clothing of the handler, the dogs behavior in the ring and of course the dog itself – everything is important and that’s why the handler should make it all perfect.
